UP will have to miles to go before becoming one trillion dollar economy

19th Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Economic Association came up with numbers of suggestion in order to revive UP and Uttarakhand economy

(UPUEA) conference held on 13th-15th April, 2024 at Ambedkar university, Lucknow

BBAU  celebrated Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti, University Foundation Day and also orgranised 19th Annual conference of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Economic Association (UPUEA) on 14th April, 2024.  The university organised 19th Annual Conference of UPUEA on the theme “Sustaining Growth with Equity: Sectoral Growth, Trade and Social Protection in the 21st Century” on 13th-15th April, 2024. Prof. Sanatan Nayak, dept of Economics was the local organising secretary of 19th Annual conference of UPUEA.

The conference was devoted exclusively to examine the on five sub-themes namely, Prospects of Manufacturing and Service Sector Growth in India’, Role and Impact of Social Protection Programmes (SPP), Emerging Features of Trade and Trade Policy, Growth and its Drivers in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development. 

Nearly 400 delegates from different parts of India  specifically from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand participated. Numerous economic issues on growth, sustainable development, were discussed in the  inaugural session, subsequently  key note addressee, memorial lecturers, panel discussions, 28 parallel technical sessions were held and finally  valedictory session was concluded.

 During the three days conference, various activities were conducted starting from a half-day pre-conference research methodology class on 13th April, 2024 on the theme ‘How to Write a Good Quality Research Paper?In this session, experts namely, Prof. Pramod Kumar, Director, Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow; Prof. Alpana Srivastava, Amity University, Lucknow; Prof. S.P. Singh, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee; Prof. Sanjay Mohanty, International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai  delivered their lectures to the young scholars on the said theme. This session was chaired by Prof. N.M. P. Verma, Head, dept of Economics and chairman of local organising committee.

On the eve of Ambedkar Jayanti on 14th April, 2024, UPUEA  started its deliberation in which ‘Conference Presidential delivered his lecture and Kautilya Award’ was given. This session was chaired by Prof.  G. Nanchariah, Former VC BBAU, Lucknow. Other prominent economists present were  Prof. Ravi Srivastava, Professor (Retd), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi & President UPUEA; Prof. P.S. Vashishtha, Former Director, Agriculture Economics Research Centre, University of Delhi and Conference President; Prof. Ashok Mittal, former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra and Executive President of UPUEA; Prof. Vinod Kumar Srivastava,  General Secretary, UPUEA, Department of Economics and Rural Development, Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya  delivered their lecture on the prescribed  themes of the conference.

In the inaugural session at 11.30 am, Prof. G. Nanchariah, Former VC of BBAU, Lucknow has delivered his lecture on the role of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s ideology and thoughts for the societal building and economic development. Prof. Binayak Rath, Former Professor of IIT, Kanpur and former VC, Utkal University, Bhubaneshwar  delivered his lecture” the role of preservation of environment for sustainable economic development”.

.Prof. Sanjay Singh, Vice- Chancellor, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow  emphasized the role of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s ideals on society buildings and also explained the progress of  Ambedkar university during the last couple of years.

 In the subsequent sessions, prominent economists namely Prof. Shiladitya Chatterjee, Senior Visiting Fellow, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi; Prof. Himanshu, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, JNU; Prof. Manmohan Krishna, Dept. of Economics, University of Allahabad, Prayagraj; Prof. K. V. Raju, Chief Economic Advisor, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Prof. A. K. Singh, Former Director, Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow; Prof. A. K. Jha, IGNOU, New Delhi; Prof. N. K. Mishra, Department of Economics, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Banaras; Prof. Manoj Agarwal, Dept of Economics, Lucknow University, Lucknow; Prof. Naveen Arora, Department of Environmental Science (DES), BBAU, Lucknow; Prof. Prasant K Ghosh, Allahabad University, Allahabad; Prof. Mrutunjaya Mishra, BHU, Banaras; Prof. B.S. Bist, National Centre for Good Governance, LalbahadurShatri Academy, Mussoorie; Prof. Yashvir Tyagi, Department of Economics, Lucknow University  delivered on various issues such as industrial growth, role of social protection programmes, the performance of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Economies, how to achieve One trillion USD for Uttar Pradesh economy by 2027.

During the deliberations of confrence , many young and dynamic researchers from various universities, institutions, and colleges  presented their research papers  in the 28 technical parallel sessions held on 14th-and 15th April, 2024.  Eventually in the valedictory session, S.K. Dora, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Regional Office, Lucknow; Shri Sourav Singh, Zonal Head, UCO Bank Lucknow;  Prof. S. Victor Babu, Dean Academic Affairs, BBAU; Prof. N.M. P. Verma, HoD, dept of Economics, BBAU; Prof.  Anamika Chaudhary, Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow  delivered on various aspects of sustainable economic development.
